Gertrude, our Guernsey milk cow, delivered a sturdy bull calf (male) on Thursday night. Farm staff had completed night checks for a full week anticipating this delivery. Thursday morning and throughout the day Gertrude showed signs of preparation. She was brought in the barn at 5 P.M. and staff saw the first hoof of the new calf around 9P.M.
Gertrude has joined Dandy at the 4 P.M. public cow milking and will be milked twice a day. Her calf will be bottle fed and will be joined by new calves purchased to drink the abundant milk supply from Gertrude. She will also produce enough to feed two Nubian kids (baby goats) that we purchased from a farmer in Loudoun County.

The kids were born March 8th and are living in the main barn.
For April, we are expecting 2 sows (pigs), 3 sheep, 2 goats and 1 cow to have their babies.
